1 Hotel, Copenhagen

What: 1 Hotels makes its Danish debut 
Where: Krystalgade 22, 1172 Copenhagen, Denmark 
When: Summer 2025

The 1 Hotels group makes its Danish debut in summer 2025 with a new property in the heart of Copenhagen’s lively Latin Quarter, within easy reach of some of the city’s best shopping and coffee shops. The property features 282 rooms and 30 suites, each finished with natural materials and earthy tones. This theme extends to the property’s urban garden, where a bee hotel and a herb and vegetable patch supply the seasonal plant-forward menus at the in-house restaurant. Elsewhere, a slick fitness centre offers group classes, personal training sessions and cutting-edge gym equipment, or guests can wind down at the Bamford Spa, where various treatments have been designed to nurture the mind, body and spirit. Next year 1 Hotels also plans to launch properties in Melbourne, Seattle and Tokyo.

What: A landmark launch in Lisbon’s charming Alfama neighbourhood

Stylish rooms, playful cocktails and traditional Portuguese food define this revamped former naval hospital in Lisbon’s Alfama neighbourhood. The Standard’s in-house design team collaborated with interior designer Jaime Hayon of Valencia-based Hayon Studio to bring the space to life, with each of its 172 rooms designed to honour Lisbon’s heritage while embracing the bold, colourful style that The Standard is known for. The hotel’s cafe serves up sweeping views of Campo de Santa Clara, while a chic lounge now occupies the former pharmacy and a destination restaurant delivers Iberian fare. Other highlights include an outdoor pool and terrace, a spa and a rooftop cocktail bar.

What: London’s hottest boutique hotel

One of London’s buzziest new addresses for 2025 comes courtesy of new hospitality group Kinsfolk & Co. The 81-room hotel is located at the crossroads of Goodge Street and Newman Street in Fitzrovia – an area known for its vibrant restaurant scene, with the likes of Carousel, Lisboeta and Kitchen Table right on its doorstep. With its modern European brasserie, stylish cocktail bar and two private dining rooms, the hotel aims to be a playful base for visitors and city dwellers alike, and will champion wellbeing in its spa offering, which includes thermal suites, treatment rooms, a meditation studio and a gym. Guests can book the entire rooftop floor, where a four-bedroom suite is kitted out with a private terrace and dedicated wellness area.

What: The UK’s first Six Senses lands in London

Taking over The Whiteley – a stunning art deco former department store in West London’s Bayswater – Six Senses’ UK debut is sure to make a splash in 2025. Throughout the hotel’s 109 luxurious guest rooms and 14 residences, contemporary design blends seamlessly with the building’s 19th-century architecture, with light-filled spaces complemented by artworks from a cast of British artists. Central to Six Senses’ wellness-focused approach, the statement spa will include a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, treatment rooms, sensory suites, a biohacking recovery lounge and an alchemy bar stocked with essential oils, herbal teas and bespoke scrubs. The opening also includes Six Senses Place – a private members’ club that boasts exclusive spaces including a private bar and lounge, co-working areas and a restaurant serving as a hub for urbanites.

What: A stylish stay in the resurgent Latin Quarter

Aparthotel group Locke will make its French debut in February 2025 with the opening of this 145-room property in Paris’s Latin Quarter, a neighbourhood known for its academic history (Simone de Beauvoir is an alumna of local Sorbonne University), boho cafes and bookshops, and landmarks like the Panthéon. The hotel features a gym, yoga studio, coffee shop, cocktail bar and destination restaurant with an indoor courtyard and terrace. Public spaces meld original features of the 18th-century building with lush foliage and soft furnishings to provide a contemporary finish. Rooms showcase Parisian-chic interiors with red-and-white striped scalloped headboards, abstract artworks, striking chandeliers and walls adorned with handcrafted ceramics.

What: Prague’s coolest new hotel

Prague has long been a favourite winter destination, charming visitors with its Christmas markets, but the city is increasingly making waves year-round thanks to a recent explosion of restaurants and boutique hotels. Case in point? Sir Prague, the newest addition to the city’s accommodation scene. This boutique hotel boasts a swish cocktail bar, cosy library and lounge, and a top restaurant. The property is set on the edge of the Vltava River in Prague’s New Town, surrounded by a mix of Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture, with the National Theatre just a short walk away. Oku’s 2021 debut in Ibiza shook up Europe’s hotel scene with its chic minimalism. In 2025, the brand is expanding with two new properties in Spain and Turkey, with this adults-only retreat along Bodrum’s immaculate northern coast the one we suggest bookmarking. The property is a sanctuary for grown-ups to relax and recharge, with beachside treatment cabanas, thermal suites and a dedicated relaxation space. There are 58 rooms and suites, most with private pools, that showcase Oku’s signature aesthetic, blending raw plaster, concrete, rattan, bamboo and lush greenery. Its three restaurants offer a mix of Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine, along with a poolside restaurant and a boho beach bar overlooking the sparkling Aegean.

Experimental Rome, Italy

What: Luxe lodgings with Colosseum views

With its newest outpost occupying a prime position on the iconic Via Veneto – known for its starring role in Federico Fellini’s film La Dolce Vita (1960) – Experimental is the latest hotel brand to make its mark in the Eternal City. Inside, guests will find 78 elegantly designed rooms and suites, a chic cocktail club and a rooftop swimming pool with views of the Italian capital’s most celebrated landmarks, including the Colosseum. The property is just a short stroll from the renowned Piazza di Spagna and Villa Borghese, too. Experimental is also set to open a new chalet hotel in Val d’lsère in January 2025, featuring a sublime spa and stunning alpine interiors courtesy of long-term collaborator Dorothée Meilichzon, who is also behind its Cotswolds outpost.

What: A new escape on Japan’s most beautiful island
Where: Nikadori-1068-1 Hirara, Miyakojima, Okinawa 906-0008, Japan
When: Early 2025

Nestled in a remote pocket of Japan’s Okinawa island, Rosewood Miyakojima overlooks sprawling sugarcane fields and the white sands of Oura Bay. The property marks Rosewood’s first foray into Japan with 55 villa accommodations featuring private pools, manicured gardens and undisturbed sea views. Netherlands-based Studio Piet Boon has incorporated the island’s natural landscape into the design with the use of local materials such as Ryukyu limestone. Elsewhere, a handful of treatment rooms are located in outdoor gardens for a deeper sense of tranquility, while hydrotherapy suites and a range of treatments are inspired by local healing traditions. You’ll find four restaurants and bars showcasing fresh seafood, seasonal produce and locally distilled spirits. Guests are encouraged to explore nearby cultural sights such as the natural stone arch at Sunayama Beach or the lighthouse at Higashi-Hennazaki Cape.

What: Japanese design comes to Bangkok

Japanese hospitality group Prince Hotels is making its Southeast Asia debut in the vibrant Bang Rak district in Bangkok, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The space is designed to be a peaceful retreat for both locals and tourists, with clean-lined interiors that exude serenity. The hotel boasts 255 rooms, a rooftop sky bar, a Thai-Japanese fusion restaurant and a pool with a lush garden terrace. Interiors draw inspiration from traditional Japanese design with blonde wood, warm lighting and a soothing cream and white palette. A standout feature – also found at its London address and soon-to-open location in Guangzhou, China – is the Malt Lounge and Bar, serving guests premium Japanese whiskies and playful cocktails.

What: An affordable base with eccentric interiors

Mama Shelter has a busy couple of years ahead with new openings in LA, Colombia, Dubai and Singapore. It’s the latter we’re most excited about, partly for its central location near the city’s shopping paradise on Orchard Road, but largely for its distinct rooms. Expect bold, patterned headboards and quirky light fixtures inspired by beloved characters from the hit film Kung Fu Panda, including Po and Master Shifu. True to Mama Shelter’s signature style, the hotel blends local culture with modern design, reflected in everything from the playful decor to the innovative, locally inspired cuisine at the rooftop restaurant and bar. Head outdoors and embrace the serenity of the outdoor pool area, which is lined by yellow-striped parasols, sun loungers, bistro chairs and lush greenery, far removed from the city’s streets below.

It’s the latest venture from Casetta, who are behind a handful of charming US-based boutique hotels such as Casa Cody in Palm Springs. Maximising the use of its striking setting, Hotel Lucile’s 25-room space is a feast for the eyes, with fabric artwork, pleated lampshades, velvet accents and original stained-glass windows all made inviting with smaller touches like coffee table books and fresh blooms. Find an array of amenities including a pool, rooftop lounge area and a swish restaurant and bar.

What: A 1980s-inspired boutique motel

An hour’s drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, this new boutique is making waves for its gorgeous interiors and back-to-nature vibe. The hotel offers a modern take on a 1980s Hacienda-style motel, with just 23 rooms with private balconies with views of dense rainforest and distant mountain peaks. Light-filled bedrooms evoke a sense of calm with a neutral colour palette. The team encourage guests to dive into the local culture, drawing up recommendations for nearby markets, microbreweries and nature itineraries. For a more relaxed vibe, snag a spot by the outdoor mineral pool and order from the concise snack menu – the wood-fired pizzas are always a great choice.

What: Melbourne’s most exciting boutique hotel

Opened at the tail end of 2024, this design-focused boutique hotel is already proving a crowd-pleaser among locals. The 14-storey property features 191 rooms with striking interiors including custom lighting, handcrafted basins and bathtubs, terrazzo tiles and local artworks. The design seamlessly layers textures like linen, velvet, concrete and brick in warm, moody tones enhanced by natural light. As for the food, expect Iberian-inspired small plates in the basement restaurant and bar courtesy of Sydney-based chefs Ross and Sunny Lusted. Upstairs, 12th-floor restaurant Mid Air dishes up everything from octopus skewers to wagyu tartare. Keep your eyes peeled for in-house events like the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival in March 2025.

The Homestead, South Africa

What: Eco-luxury lodge in rural South Africa

Situated in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa, this safari lodge has been crafted from local ironstone and surrounded by indigenous grasses to seamlessly blend into the natural landscape. Here, guests are immersed in the wild with direct access to the Big Five as well as over 50 protected mammal species and 300 bird species that call the area home. There are just twelve exclusive suites, so the lodge feels more like a home than a hotel. Guests can unwind at the on-site spa, where treatments are designed to invigorate the senses and promote lymphatic drainage to alleviate the effects of travel. At Delano Dubai, a Roman-inspired pool is perfectly positioned beneath staggering palm trees with ocean facing views. Rooms have a soothing minimalist palette with beiges and whites complemented by rich textures such as leather, marble, wood and bouclé, each fitted out with their own private balconies. Notable artworks, including a striking reflective art piece in the lobby by Lahore-based artist Hussain Jamil, add character to the space. Guests enjoy direct access to a private white-sand beach, along with three dining concepts offering French and Italian fare. The designated wellness area serves soul-nourishing dishes like superfood smoothies and protein-packed salads, alongside beachside callisthenics equipment, paddle courts and a private pool. Delano Dubai is the second outpost from the brand reborn under Ennismore, with a Miami hotel set to follow in late 2025.
