The best vintage shops in Paris
From high-end haute couture to second-hand thrifting and flea markets, a local fashion writer highlights where to go vintage shopping in Paris
As the enduring fashion capital of the world, Paris has no shortage of excellent shopping. For those in search of one-of-a-kind pieces, the city’s eclectic vintage shops, second-hand friperies and flea markets reveal timeless treasures that reflect the city’s sartorial past, whether looking for pre-loved Chanel, a 1970s smoking jacket or second-hand Sandro.
Where to shop for vintage in Paris
You’ll find vintage shops, brocantes (antique markets) and marchés aux puces (flea markets) in every arrondissement of Paris, however some are better known for their concentration of second-hand shopping than others. Located in the north of Paris, the immersive Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen is the world’s largest antique market and draws more visitors annually than the Eiffel Tower. The seven-mile stretch the size of a small post-code, and is dense with stalls selling everything from cheap thrills to true antiques. Visit Friday to Monday, and we recommend using Mei Mei Vintage (see below) as your starting point.
The streets of the Marais and the 10th arrondissements are lined with vintage shops and consignment stores with more contemporary collections, while vintage boutiques around Palais-Royal are curated with high-end designer vintage. When you’re done, quench your thirst at one of the best bars in Paris, or check out the city’s recommended restaurants.
These are the best vintage shops in Paris, for luxury goods and great bargains alike.
