Tekla
Best for: Sustainably minded home textiles

In the bathroom of many a Danish apartment you’ll find hand and bath towels from Tekla – a Copenhagen-based brand that produces clothing and home textiles in chic block colours and stripes. Founded in 2017 by Charlie Hedin, the brand eschews seasonal trends in favour of soft furnishings with a low environmental impact. Previous collaborations have included ultra-cool Canadian label JJJJound and popular French designer Jacquemus. Visit the Tekla flagship on Vognmagergade in the city centre to pick up fabric swatches in-store and put in an order at home (worldwide shipping is available) if you can’t decide on the spot.
DORA
Best for: Kitsch homeware and stationery

Linking the neighbourhoods of Frederiksberg and Vesterbro, Værnedamsvej is a street that locals affectionately nickname “Little Paris” because of the numerous Parisian-style cafes and bistros in the area. Nestled among them is the kooky homeware shop Dora. Featuring an ivy-covered storefront, the shop itself includes a statement wall stacked with unconventional glass objects in a range of colours. During a quick browse around the space, you’ll discover vegetable-inspired serving dishes, patterned woven rugs and seashells-turned-soap dishes. The ideal place to find a special present, the staff will gift wrap items for a small fee, and novelty greeting cards can also be found at the counter.
Shrig Shop
Best for: Limited edition David Shrigley art

Located a few doors down from Dora, near some of Copenhagen’s best vintage boutiques, Shrig Shop is a collaboration between British artist David Shrigley and long-term gallerist and friend Nicolai Wallner. Considered an extension of David Shrigley’s artistic practice, you’ll find limited edition prints, posters and postcards alongside photography, books and art installations. It is the only dedicated David Shrigley shop in the world.
Maria Black
Best for: Abstract statement jewellery; ear piercing

Founder and goldsmith Maria Black launched her eponymous label from Copenhagen in 2010, with a focus on ethically produced abstract pieces. The Danish jewellery brand has since expanded across 30 markets, known across the world for its individualistic designs. Sinuous rings, chokers and bangles are crafted in fourteen carat gold and recycled silver, while huggie hoop and stud earrings are set with lab-grown diamonds. Copenhagen is home to two stores in the city centre, on Silkegade and Kronprinsensgade, which are a short walk from one another. Trine Tuxen began her career as a dancer before pivoting into jewellery and ceramic design in 2012. Her eponymous label draws inspiration from the organic shapes found across nature: pendants, earrings and bracelets often mimic the form of flowers, seashells and vegetables. Tuxen’s designs are mostly handcrafted in 925 sterling silver, occasionally with 14-carat gold plating, with select pieces available in handcrafted 14- and 18-carat solid gold. There are two locations within the city to shop her timeless pieces: the flagship Frederiksberg store on Gammel Kongevej, as well as the jewellery and lifestyle store on Elmegade in Nørrebro.
